Course Description

This two-day, 16.0-hour course is designed for Law Enforcement, Fire Fighter and EMS professionals that are required to respond to Active Threat events. This course looks at the history of the Active Threat perpetrator(s) and how the tactics used have changed.  Course participants with have a combination of lecture and hands-on training to emphasize the points of safe and effective response to the Active Threat.

Performance Objectives

  • Discuss the history of the Active Threat and how the tactics have changed
  • Conducting rapid trauma assessments
  • Apply the appropriate bandage or tourniquet to stop moderate to severe hemorrhaging
  • Discuss the application and use of hemostatic agents in moderate to severe hemorrhaging
  • Discuss the safety concerns of the first responder entering an Active Threat environment
  • Discuss the types of wounds that will most likely occur in an Active Threat
  • Discuss and train with the START triage system
