Course Description

The Bomb Squad / SWAT Interoperability Course is of a total of 10 days in duration. The course is broken down into two courses of 5 days, which can be taken separately or back to back. Part 1 of the training is designed to provide the bomb technician with the basic skill sets required to perform a hand entry in support of a SWAT team. These skills also have application outside of the SWAT arena and are equally applicable to hostage devices or the manual clearance of IEDs during major incidents when evacuation of the public or rescue workers is not possible. The course covers the philosophy, tools and techniques required to hand neutralize a range of basic IEDs.

Performance Objectives

  • Conduct basic hand entry operations.
  • Discuss and explain the theoretical knowledge required to execute a hand entry operation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze available information and select an appropriate RSP for a given IED situation.
  • Apply the skills taught in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Appraise available intelligence and develop an EOD support plan to present to a working point supervisor
