Course Description

This course is designed to provide law enforcement personnel with the tools and techniques necessary to identify, intercept, and safely board a non-compliant vessel at sea during daylight hours.  Maritime attacks, boarding equipment and boarding procedures are covered during classroom discussions and practical exercises.  Shipboard familiarization is covered as it applies to recognition of critical areas of a vessel, as well as tactical shipboard movement.
 
Module Descriptions
  • Personal Tactical Gear and Flotation Integration. Structured to provide an all-inclusive overview and review of personal tactical gear, flotation integration procedures and safety requirements required to conduct Basic Maritime Interdiction (BMI) operations.  
  • BMI Boarding Equipment. Designed to familiarize students with the various types of equipment required to safely conduct dynamic ship boarding operations.  Specific emphasis is placed on preparation, maintenance and safety tests conducted prior to any training or operations.  
  • Boarding Procedures. Provides the students with step-by-step procedures for safely and effectively boarding a vessel by unconventional/non-compliant means.  
  • Boat Assault Force (BAF) Operations. Introduces the students to specific BAF preparations, individual assignments and responsibilities prior to embarking onboard a high-speed watercraft in response to a maritime interdiction operation
  • Shipboard Familiarization and Safety. Designed to provide familiarization with shipboard terminology and critical control areas onboard a vessel.
  • Shipboard Tactical Movement. Designed to familiarize students with the unique circumstances involved with safe and effective tactical movement onboard a vessel.
 

Performance Objectives

  •  Train law enforcement agencies responsible for regional security to effectively and safely respond to a terrorist incident on a non-compliant vessel.
