One of the most critical pieces of infrastructure in a city is its water system. With populations in cities growing, it is inevitable that water consumption will grow as well.

Treated municipal wastewater and sewage sludge are important sources of water for irrigation in arid and semiarid regions. They can also serve as promising sources of plant nutrients and organic material that has a potential to increase soil productivity under arid conditions. Organizations such as the Water Environment Federation (WEF) are transforming wastewater treatment plants into resource recovery facilities, which includes energy generation.

Willdan’s team utilizes treated wastewater as a resource which, in addition to being a low-cost available water source, also minimizes effluent disposal problems and environmental contamination.
