Overview
Multifamily housing has some unique energy efficiency considerations, most surrounding who pays the utility bill. Owners are reluctant to pay for energy efficiency upgrades if the tenants pay the energy costs. WES has developed numerous ways of working with owners, property managers, and housing authorities, to provide energy efficiency upgrades.
These upgrades typically include audits, efficient interior and exterior lighting, Energy Star appliances, weatherization and upgraded and energy efficient air conditioning or HVAC equipment.

NYSERDA Multifamily Performance Program
Over the next five years, this innovative program from the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) will provide over $150M in incentives to improve the energy efficiency, health and safety, and sustainability of both existing and newly constructed multifamily buildings across New York State. The energy efficiency work completed under these programs is projected to save New Yorkers over $100 million per year in energy costs.
